Kobelco Engine Bearing Shells: Main, Connecting Rod and Camshaft Sets

Engine bearing shells are the parts that decide whether a rebuild lasts. How main, connecting rod and camshaft bearings are numbered on Kobelco engines, how size marking works, and the checks that come first — Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd.

Bearing shells are the least glamorous parts in an engine rebuild and the ones that decide whether it lasts. They are also the cheapest place to make a mistake that destroys a crankshaft, because a shell of the wrong size or the wrong grade will either seize or hammer itself loose within hours. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. supplies engine bearing sets for the Japanese engine families that sit in Kobelco machines, and the questions buyers ask are always the same three.

The three bearing positions

A diesel engine in an excavator has three bearing families that wear on different schedules. Main bearings support the crankshaft in the block. Connecting rod bearings sit between the rod and the crank journal. Camshaft bearings carry the camshaft in the head or the block, and on engines with bushings rather than shells, the bushing is replaced in the same visit. Our records quote main bearings as VA3430909051, VH117011851A and VHS117012140, connecting rod bearings as VH13041E0700 / VH13041E0450 / VH13041E0C20 and as VH13041E0C40 / VH13041E0800 / VH13041E0561 / VH13041E0240 / VH132012120 / VH13041E0560, a P11C connecting rod bearing as VHS132011880, an engine connecting rod bearing as VA32F1902100, and a camshaft bearing as VA3430702802.

Why one record carries several numbers

Buyers are often puzzled by records that quote a bearing under four or six numbers. There is usually no mystery. A set is supplied as a set, with the same shell appearing under a different number once the manufacturer revised it, or with a different number for each journal position where the shells are not all identical. Reading the record as a set rather than as alternatives is the correct interpretation, and it is why the useful question at the ordering stage is not which number is right but what the set contains.

Standard, undersize, and the marking that decides it

Bearing shells come in a standard size and in undersizes, and the engine's own marking tells you which one it needs. Where a crankshaft has already been reground, the correct shell is the undersize that matches the new journal diameter, not the standard one. Fitting a standard shell to an undersize journal produces no oil clearance, and the engine fails within minutes. The clearance itself is checked with a plastic gauge strip before final assembly, and that measurement is the only thing that turns a guess into a rebuild.

Two more checks belong before any bearing is ordered. Measure the journal for taper and out-of-round as well as diameter, because a journal that is worn oval will not be saved by a new shell. And find out why the old bearing failed. Oil starvation, a blocked oil jet, diluted oil or a bent rod all destroy new shells exactly as they destroyed the old ones, and our records include the small parts that belong in that investigation, such as the oil jet VA32F0701200 and the bearing seat bolt VHS115211261.

Shenyue tip: photograph the old shells in the order they came out, and note any marking on the back. The back of a shell often carries a size stamp that survives when the box and the paperwork do not. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. matches bearing sets to the engine serial number, holds 3,000+ part types on the shelf with 100,000+ part numbers available to order, and declares the grade of every line.

How to order a bearing set

Give the engine model and serial number, the machine model, the size marking or the measured journal diameter, and the reason for the rebuild. Where the engine has been reground, the undersize has to be stated as part of the order, because it changes the part. Where the numbers are unreadable, the measurements and a photograph are enough to identify the set.

Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. holds formal authorization for Garrett, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, TONGMYUNG, NIKURA and Marusan, with the Mitsubishi authorization covering MHI engine parts only. Kobelco is not among them: Shenyue is an independent supplier and is not an authorized dealer of Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., and engine parts for Kobelco machines are supplied as genuine components through original supply channels or as quality alternatives. Engine specifications for the Hino families are published at hino-global.com. Send the details above with the quantity and the destination port, and read the wider rebuild logic in the J05E engine rebuild guide or the engine parts range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What decides between standard and undersize bearing shells?

The crankshaft journal diameter. If the crank has been reground, the shell must be the matching undersize, because a standard shell on an undersize journal leaves no oil clearance and the engine fails almost immediately. Where the history is unknown, measure the journals rather than trusting the previous invoice.

Why does one bearing appear under several numbers?

Usually because it is supplied as a set. The same shell appears under a revised number, or different journal positions carry different numbers, so a record quoting four or six numbers is describing the contents of a set rather than a list of alternatives. That is why we ask what the set contains, not which single number looks right.

What else should be checked when bearings have failed?

The oil supply and the reason for the failure. Oil starvation, a blocked oil jet, fuel-diluted oil and a bent rod all destroy new shells the same way they destroyed the old ones. Measure the journals for taper and ovality, check the oil circuit, and replace small parts such as the oil jet and the bearing seat bolt in the same visit.
