Reading a Kobelco Parts Catalogue: Index, Figure, Key Number and Part Number

Four different numbers appear on one catalogue page and only one of them can be ordered. How the index, figure and key numbers work, and why a key number on its own can never be priced.

A Kobelco hydraulic pump assembly from our Guangzhou warehouse — one orderable part number, several alternative markings. Grades are declared on every quotation.

Open a Kobelco parts book and four different numbers appear on the same page: an index number, a figure number, a key number and a part number. Only the last one identifies a part you can order. Mixing them up is one of the quietest sources of wrong orders we see, because a key number looks exactly like a part number to anyone who has not been shown the difference. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. works from these catalogues every day, so this guide sets the four numbers out in the order you meet them.

The four numbers, in the order they appear

Every enquiry starts at the machine, not at the drawing. The catalogue is indexed by machine family and serial number range, so the first thing to settle is the exact designation — an SK200-8 and an SK200-10 are different books, and an SK210LC-8 is indexed separately again. From the index you reach a section such as engine, hydraulic or undercarriage, then a figure, which is the exploded drawing for that section. On the drawing each component carries a balloon or key number, and the parts list underneath maps that key number to a part number, a description and the quantity used per assembly.

NumberWhat it isWhat it cannot tell you
Index numberThe section of the machine you are working inNothing at all about the part itself
Figure numberThe exploded drawing for that sectionWhich build of the machine the drawing covers
Key or balloon numberA position on one drawing — a pointer, not an identityThe part number, and it repeats across drawings
Part numberThe orderable identity of the componentWhether it has since been replaced by a later number

Why a key number cannot be priced

Key numbers are local to a drawing. The same balloon number that points at a regulator on one figure points at an entirely different component on the next, and inside a long parts list it can be repeated for a factory option. A customer who sends "key 12 on the pump drawing" has given a position, not an identity, and that position has to be resolved against the right figure for the right serial range before anything can be quoted. This is where the two classic catalogue traps sit: the same key number resolving to a different part once the serial range changes, and the same part appearing in more than one figure because it is used twice on the same machine.

Supersessions and numbers written with a slash

The part number itself is not always final. Manufacturers replace numbers, use one number across more than one market build, and print an old and a new number on the same component during a changeover. Our own records show the pattern clearly at the pump: the SK200-8 class pump assembly is quoted as 2924610-0030 / YN10V00005S156, the set plate as 2924110-0056 / LC10V00010S153 and the regulator assembly as 29070821-4927 / YN10V01006F2. A number written with a slash holds alternative markings for the same assembly, not two separate parts to choose between.

Shenyue tip: when you send a drawing reference, send the whole string — machine designation, serial, section name, figure number and key number — plus a photograph of the part in place. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. resolves the key number to the part number for your serial range and declares each line as genuine, OEM or aftermarket before quoting.

Quantity per assembly is part of the order

The parts list also carries a quantity, and on Kobelco machines the quantity is where a rebuild either completes or runs short. A cylinder reseal needs every seal on the drawing, not the two that were visibly damaged, and the same applies to the fasteners, shims and collars listed against an undercarriage component. Engine side, it is the same story: our records quote an injector assembly as VH23670E0810 with the nozzle set as VH23670E0050 / VH239101440, and those line items exist because the nozzle and the assembly are separate entries on the drawing. Ordering a key number without its quantity is the second half of the same mistake, which is why our quotations are built from the drawing rather than from a verbal description of the fault.

How we supply

Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. has specialised in Kobelco since 2007, with 4 warehouses over 1000 m² in Guangzhou, 3,000+ part types on the shelf and 100,000+ part numbers available to order through original supply channels. Shenyue is an independent supplier and is not an authorized dealer of Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.; for Kobelco, Hino, Isuzu, Yanmar, Cummins, Kawasaki, Nabtesco, KYB and KPM we supply genuine parts ordered through original supply channels alongside quality replacement alternatives at prices close to agent level, and the five brands we hold formal authorization for — Mitsubishi, Garrett, TONGMYUNG, Marusan and NIKURA — are named on every quotation. The part number search is the fastest way to check a number before it reaches a quotation, the part number prefix guide explains the letter families those numbers belong to, and the engine parts page shows the assemblies most often ordered with a drawing reference. Published Kobelco machine information is a useful cross-reference when a serial range has to be tied to a build year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the key number in a Kobelco parts book the part number?

No. The key number is a balloon position on one exploded drawing and it repeats across drawings; the part number is the orderable identity of the component, listed against that key number in the parts list. Sending a key number alone gives a position, not a part, so it cannot be priced until it is resolved against the correct figure for your serial range.

What does a slash in a Kobelco part number mean?

It usually marks alternative markings for the same assembly, not a choice between two parts. Our records show the SK200-8 class pump assembly as 2924610-0030 / YN10V00005S156 and the regulator assembly as 29070821-4927 / YN10V01006F2, where either marking identifies the same component.

Why does the same part number appear twice on a machine drawing?

Because the component is used more than once on the same machine, so it is listed in more than one figure with its own key number and quantity each time. Ordering from one figure without checking the quantity is how a repair ends up one seal or one fastener short.

How do I confirm a Kobelco part number before I order?

Send the machine designation and serial, the section name, the figure and key number, plus a photograph of the part in place. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. resolves the key number to a part number for your serial range, flags any supersession, and declares each line as genuine, OEM or aftermarket before quoting.
