The Kobelco -9 Generation: What Sits Between -8 and -10, and How to Order Parts for It

Machines badged -9 sit between the -8 and the -10 series and are commonly quoted as SK210LC-9, SK260LC-9, SK330-9 and SK350-9. Here is how to confirm the generation, the engine and the component class before you order.

Most Kobelco parts articles jump straight from the -8 series to the -10 series, and that leaves a real gap on the desk of anyone buying for a mixed fleet. Between the two sits the -9 generation, commonly quoted in several markets as SK210LC-9, SK260LC-9, SK330-9 and SK350-9. It is not a rename of the -8, and it is not an early -10. Buying for one from the wrong generation is one of the most common and most expensive ordering errors we see, so Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. sets out here what actually changed, and how to confirm it on the machine rather than from the badge.

What the -9 badge really tells you

The badge tells you the series, not the components. A Kobelco model designation is a marketing and series label, and the parts classes behind it — engine, pump, travel motor, swing motor, undercarriage — are recorded on the component nameplates and in the parts book for that machine's serial range. Two machines can carry the same family badge and different component classes if the serial ranges straddle a running change, which is exactly the situation the -9 sits in.

So treat the model name as the door to the right parts book, not as the answer to the question "which pump does this machine take".

The three things that did change

Across the -8 to -10 span there are three visible shifts, and the -9 machines generally sit on the far side of the first two.

System-8 series-9 series-10 series
Exhaust aftertreatmentMostly none in the lighter classesAftertreatment hardware appears across more of the rangeAftertreatment and its sensors are standard
Monitoring and controlGauge cluster, discrete switchesMore sensors and more monitored channelsFully monitored with fault codes on screen
Hydraulic pump familyK3V112DT class on ~20 t, K5V140 class on ~30 tSame families carried overSame families, changed controls around them
Travel motor familyNabtesco GM38VB on SK200-8 / SK210-8Confirm from the nameplateNabtesco GM38VC on SK200-10 / SK210-10 / SK220XD-10

Two of those rows deserve a warning. The first is aftertreatment: once it appears, the parts list grows a set of items that did not exist on the -8 — EGR coolers, EGR valve gaskets, exhaust gas temperature sensors, DPF pressure lines and a different filter of sensors around the engine. Our records quote the EGR cooler family as VH25608E0280 / VHS173091120 and the EGR valve gasket as VH25634E0020, and neither part has a place on a machine without aftertreatment.

The second is the travel motor, and this is where real money is lost. GM38VB and GM38VC are two generations of the same Nabtesco family and they are not interchangeable. Our records show the SK200-8 and SK210-8 class on GM38VB with assembly numbers YN15V00037F1, YN15V00037F2 and YN15V00037F3, and the SK200-10, SK210-10 and SK220XD-10 class on GM38VC with assembly number YN15V00083F1. If the machine is a -9, neither list can be assumed; the nameplate on the motor in front of you decides it.

Consumables are where the -9 question costs least and matters most

Filters, belts, thermostats and water pumps are cheap, bought often, and almost always the reason a machine is off hire. They are also the easiest group to get wrong, because the number that matters is the engine plate, not the model badge. Machines in this range run the Hino J05E and J08E six-cylinder family further up, and a four-cylinder Kobelco and Hino family engine in the compact classes. Our records quote the fuel filter as VH23304EV360 and the engine oil filter as LC11P00019R100 for the J05E and J08E machines, with the air filter assembly as LE11P00011F1KG3 — but the cross-check is always the engine plate.

Shenyue tip: before ordering for a -9 machine, send the machine plate with the full designation and serial, the hour meter reading, and a clear photograph of the engine plate and of the pump nameplate. Those four items let Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. resolve the series, the engine build and the hydraulic class in one pass, so the quotation cannot land on the wrong generation.

How to confirm the generation in five minutes

Start with the machine plate: it carries the full designation, including any LC, XD, SR or D suffix, plus the serial. Then photograph three nameplates — engine, hydraulic pump and travel motor — because those three decide the large majority of the value on any quotation. Then note the hour meter, since a machine near a major service interval needs a different conversation than one at 2,000 hours. If the plates are unreadable, send a photograph anyway; partial plate photographs often carry enough detail to resolve the family, and we will tell you plainly when they do not.

If you already know the part number and only need it priced and checked, the part number search is faster than a full enquiry. If you are still identifying the machine, start from the SK210 model page or the SK260LC model page and work outward from there. Series background behind those pages is published by Kobelco Construction Machinery; Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. checks every quotation against the plates you send rather than against the badge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Kobelco -9 the same as a -10 with fewer options?

No. The -9 is its own series with its own parts books and serial ranges, and its component classes cannot be inferred from either neighbouring series. Series labels describe the machine family; the class of the pump, travel motor, swing motor and engine is recorded on the component nameplates and resolved against the serial range.

Can I fit a GM38VC travel motor to an SK210-8 that had a GM38VB?

They are different generations of the same Nabtesco family and are not interchangeable. Our records show GM38VB on the SK200-8 and SK210-8 class with assembly numbers YN15V00037F1, YN15V00037F2 and YN15V00037F3, and GM38VC on the SK200-10, SK210-10 and SK220XD-10 class with assembly YN15V00083F1. Order from the nameplate on the machine.

Which filter numbers fit a -9 machine?

There is no single answer for the series. For the J05E and J08E machines our records quote the fuel filter as VH23304EV360, the engine oil filter as LC11P00019R100 and the air filter assembly as LE11P00011F1KG3, but every one of those is confirmed against the engine plate rather than the model badge, because running changes inside a series change the consumable list.

How does Shenyue verify a -9 machine before quoting?

From the machine plate plus photographs of the engine, pump and travel motor nameplates and the hour meter. Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. has supplied Kobelco parts since 2007, holds 3,000+ part types on the shelf with 100,000+ part numbers available to order through original supply channels, and declares every line as genuine, OEM or aftermarket before quoting.
