Kobelco SK Generations (-6, -8, -10) and How to Read the Nameplate Before You Order

The same model name covers several generations of Kobelco machines. A practical guide to reading machine plates, serials and part nameplates before ordering.

Most wrong-part claims in this trade share one root cause: the buyer and the supplier agreed on a model name, and the machine turned out to be a different generation of it. SK200, SK200-6, SK200-8 and SK200-10 are four different machines with different hydraulic systems, engines and electronics. This guide explains how the generations are marked, what to photograph, and how the technical team at Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. turns one message into a correct quotation.

How Kobelco model names are built

A Kobelco model name normally carries three kinds of information: the size class, a letter group describing the machine type, and a generation suffix.

Part of the nameWhat it tells youExample
SK + numberSize class in tonnes, roughlySK200 = 20-ton class, SK350 = 35-ton class
Letter groupMachine type or configurationSR = short radius, LC = long carrier, XD = heavy-duty undercarriage
Generation suffixProduction generation / design revision-6, -8, -10

A machine can carry more than one letter group, such as SK220XD-10 or SK350LC-8. When ordering parts, the letter group matters as much as the number: a short-radius machine has different swing and counterweight geometry, and an XD machine has a heavier undercarriage than the standard build.

Why generations matter to parts buyers

  • Hydraulic system revisions. Pumps, regulators, motors and control valves change between generations. The K3V112 pump family belongs to the 20-ton class of this period, but the exact assembly must be matched to the build.
  • Travel motor generation. SK200-8 class machines normally use the Nabtesco GM38VB; SK200-10 and SK220XD-10 class machines use the GM38VC. They are not interchangeable.
  • Engine and emission tier. SK200-8 class machines run the HINO J05E. Later generations introduce revised engine management and different service parts for the same engine family name.
  • Electrical and monitoring. Controllers, sensors and panels change most often — and are the least tolerant of a "close enough" order.
Shenyue tip: if you do not know the generation, you do not need to work it out. Photograph the machine data plate, the pump nameplate and the failed part's nameplate, and send all three. We will identify the generation from them.

Where the plates are and what to photograph

  1. Machine data plate — usually in the cab, giving the full model name, serial number and often the engine model.
  2. Engine plate — needed whenever the enquiry concerns engine parts, since one machine generation can be serviced with more than one engine rating.
  3. Component nameplates — pump, swing motor, travel motor. The maker's name and assembly number on the plate override the machine model in every case.
  4. The failed part itself, with any casting or stamped number visible.

In focus, at an angle that catches the light — a blurred plate is the single most common reason a quotation comes back with questions instead of prices.

The ordering checklist we use

  1. Full model name including letter group and generation suffix.
  2. Machine serial number.
  3. Component nameplate photograph (if the part is a pump, motor or assembly).
  4. System: engine, hydraulic, undercarriage, electrical, cooling, cab.
  5. Whether you need the complete assembly, a repair kit, or individual parts.
  6. Quantity and required date.

Send these six items and the quotation is right the first time. Skip them and the risk moves onto your machine's downtime.

Where Shenyue fits

Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. has specialised in Kobelco parts since 2007 — four warehouses over 1000 m² in Guangzhou, 2,000+ part types on the shelf and 30,000+ part numbers available to order, with a technical team whose members each bring more than ten years of Kobelco parts experience. Every quotation states whether an item is genuine, OEM or aftermarket, and every shipment is photographed before it is packed.

Start from the machine models index, browse the parts categories, or search a number directly in the part number search. Our counterfeit detection guide covers the buying side of the same discipline. For brands outside Kobelco, see corbayparts.com and excavatorpartsglobal.com.

Shenyue is an independent supplier of excavator parts. We are not an authorized dealer or distributor of Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., and Kobelco is not one of our authorized brands; genuine Kobelco parts are supplied through original supply channels, alongside quality replacement alternatives. For original build data and machine documentation, the manufacturer's own publications — including Kobelco's official site — remain the reference, and engine service data follows Hino's official publications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Kobelco SK200-6, SK200-8 and SK200-10?

They are three production generations of the same size class, with different hydraulic systems, engines, electronics and part numbers. Parts are not freely interchangeable between them, so the generation suffix on the machine data plate must be quoted when ordering.

How do I identify which generation my Kobelco is?

Read the machine data plate, normally inside the cab: it carries the full model name with generation suffix and the machine serial number. If the plate is unreadable, photograph the pump and travel motor nameplates — Guangzhou Shenyue Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. can identify the generation from those.

Why does the same Kobelco model need different parts from different machines?

Because the model name covers several generations and configurations (SR short radius, LC long carrier, XD heavy-duty undercarriage), and manufacturers revise components between production runs. The old part's own number and the machine serial number are what decide the correct replacement.

What should I send with a parts enquiry to get the right quotation?

The full model name including generation suffix, the machine serial number, a component nameplate photograph, the system the part belongs to, whether you need an assembly or repair parts, and the quantity and date required. Those six details prevent nearly every wrong order.
